What Kinds of Foods to Avoid with Braces

Did you know that healthy food is just as important for your smile as it is your body?

Well, it’s true! Nutrition builds the very foundation of healthy teeth and gums. And when you are investing in a smile straightening system such as braces, the food you eat can help or harm them.

At Hawaii Smile Designs in Kahului, Hawaii, we know that it can be a challenge to transition into braces. For this reason, in today’s blog, we would like to review some food tips to help you with your smile.

You probably already know that sugary foods can increase the risk of cavities and plaque build-up. This can not only damage your pearly whites, but it can also increase your risk of gum disease. When you are undergoing treatment with braces, your risk of cavities and gum disease can increase if you do not properly care for your teeth.

Tough to eat foods like popcorn, gum, corn on the cob, apples, and any other type of sticky foods are best avoided while you have braces. This is because they can harm your braces or stick to your teeth at a hard-to-reach place.

If you have any questions about your diet and foods while you have braces, remember to ask Dr. Aaron Miyai any of your questions.
